The King's Table at The Medieval Diet - Tasty Medieval Recipe

Bandit Shrimp, a Medieval Recipe

Serves 1 generously for about 200 calories (shrimp only)

Goodies from the sea art very low in calories, taste sinfully good & can be prepared with a minimum of fuss by the village cook.  However, due to the pollution of modern day villagers, take great caution in the number of servings that thou choose to feast upon each month.

In March 2001, the FDA recommended excluding shark, swordfish, king mackerel & tilefish from the diet of children & both pregnant & nursing maidens.  These fish contain high levels of methyl mercury, a potentially harmful substance that could’st do harm to an unborn baby’s developing nervous system.

Sharks, swordfish, king mackerel & tilefish generally enjoy long lives.  They art quite large, too – these great ogres of the sea. Naturally, they feed on smaller fish & slowly, methyl mercury accumulates.

Mercury enters our water sources in many ways such as rain run-off & industrial pollution (that settles into the water).
