Medieval Food - The Medieval Diet - Preparing for Thy Weight Loss Tournament

Most doctors (ie barbers) recommend a calorie allotment of 1,200 to 1,500 minimum calories per day whilst dieting.  However, there are some villagers from time-to-time for which this amount might not apply.  Again, it ‘tis emphasized that if this becomes thy own case, seek out thy family doctor in haste!  Too few calories leads to thy ill health.

Thy health cannot be bought.  Consider & safe-keep thy precious bounty!

And always check with thy doctor before taking any diet journey & heed his/her recommendations.  Tho the Medieval Diet ‘tis safe & healthy & a true pattern that one can add to their daily healthy diet, there are exceptions to every rule.  Pregnant Ladies, nursing Ladies or any villager under age 21 or over age 75, or those who have certain existing medical conditions should seek special permission from their doctor before going on ANY diet plan.  This is due to specific & special needs that these types of villagers require.

Saving Calories – By substituting low calorie goodies for some ingredients listed in our recipes, thou can save even farther calories.  Examples include: egg substitutes for real eggs; reduced calorie cheeses (tho at times we recommend using REAL cheese) (fake doth not melt well); reduced calorie meats; sugar-free goodies such as sugar-free syrup rather than honey; reduced calorie bread – & so forth.

Our next chapter outlines foods that thy should’st definitely substitute.  These suggestions may help thee to achieve maximum weight loss and may prevent thee from falling off the diet wagon.

Beware that sometimes ‘reduced’ isn’t what it’s cracked up to be!  A good example ‘tis fat reduced saltines.  They contain the same amount of calories as the full blown deal & art not nearly as tasty. Another good example ‘tis peanut butter.  Thy will not save significant calories, so opt for the richer, smoother, creamier choice.

And take heed that when thy tummy ‘tis merry, so shall ye diet be!  More on this important topic a bit later in The Medieval Diet.
