Tips of the Mushroom Hunters ©

Mushrooms come in so many shapes, colors, sizes!  They can grow right out of the side of a tree - or knit themselves into a rotted log. They appear suddenly & vanish just as quickly!

Mushroom Hunters can find a cove of wondrous fungus goodies in the Great Outdoors, that be not only delicious, but beautiful & sometimes spell-binding. Here lies a few tips to keep thy journey a safe one:

Purchase a mushroom manual for identification purposes, or check out a guidebook from thy local library.

Take along a mushroom expert till thou art smitten with mushroom knowledge confidence.  Poisonous mushroom stories be akin to shark-attack tales, a bit blown out of proportion. However, all it takes ‘tis one tiny bite from the wrong plant (or to be bitten by the wrong fish).  So be on the safe side; exercise extreme caution.

Mushrooms loveth marshy ground. They can grow in most any spot, so keep a lookout on the ground along the trail, off the trail, even on rotted logs & live trees.

If thou hath intentions to handle mushrooms, take along protective gloves.

Start a Mushroom Journal & see how many species thou can document over time.

If thou art able to confidently collect edible mushrooms, carefully store them in a cloth bag after gathering.

Use a small new paintbrush to remove the dirt from the mushrooms.

Mushrooms can be grilled, stir-fried, roasted, broiled, pan-fried or tossed into a favorite casserole or soup.

Dryed mushrooms also make excellent accompaniments to soups & stews.

Mushrooms travel well with thee on thy journey.
